In advance of the G20 London summit, the Liberal Democrats have challenged the Government to deliver a 'G20 Compact' to protect the developing world from the effects of the global financial crisis.
Launching Development in a Downturn: Dealing with the Global Emergency, Liberal Democrat Shadow International Development Secretary, Michael Moore has set out a ten point plan for the G20 including a £1bn UK stimulus plan to assist developing economies.
Commenting, Michael Moore said:
"Gordon Brown frequently claims leadership of the response to the global economic crisis and on development issues. As Chair of the G20, the summit will be a key test of the Prime Minister's ability to deliver on both these fronts.
"The scale of the emergency facing the developing world is unprecedented and requires a serious response from the G20.
"G8 delivery of outstanding aid pledges is just the first step. It must be coupled with emergency support for the world's poorest and hungriest, and concerted efforts to revitalise developing economies."
